American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
Dates: March 1--8:30 to 3:00 pm. Be
prepared to swim--rain or shine (unless thunder and lightning)
March 2--9 am to 3:00 pm: Lifeguard skills and training
March 8--9 am to 3:00 pm: Lifeguard skills and training
March 9--9 am to 3:00 pm: Lifeguard skills and training (as necessary)
March 15--8:00 am to ?: CPR and First Aid..
Prerequisites
- Minimum age of 15.
- Swim 300 yards continuously.
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using
front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7–10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound
object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point
with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within
1 minute, 40 seconds.
Certification Requirements
- Attend all class sessions.
- Demonstrate competency in all required skills
and activities.
- Demonstrate competency in the three final
skill scenarios.
- Correctly answer at least 80 percent of the
questions in the three sections of the final written exam.
Certificate Issued and Validity Period
Lifeguarding/First Aid: 3 years
CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer: 1 year

- You must call the Center Office at (310) 831-1984 to pre-register for classes as class size
is limited. Registration forms are available in the Center Office,
online, or
in Word or
Adobe PDF format.
- You must send or bring in the registration form with payment prior to
beginning the first class. Your place in the class you want is NOT
guaranteed or confirmed until we receive payment.
 PLEASE NOTE:
Space may not be available even if we
receive your payment you have not
pre-registered in the class you wish.
- Please try to attend the first class session. Some classes may not
take all sessions to complete.
- A swim test must be completed for all classes requiring the use of
watercraft or the pool. If the swim test cannot be completed, the Scout
may transfer to another class. No refunds will be given.
- Scouts are expected to be in full Class A uniform for classes unless otherwise
directed by the center staff.
- No refunds, credits or transfers will be given once the session has
started.
- Boy Scouts must present signed blue cards on the first day of class.
